Healing from trauma and adversity

We grow through adversity.

We need not seek it out.

We can all look back at moments when

our lives were in utter chaos, desolation and despair.

Growth comes when we respond to adversity by stretching just an edge

beyond our talent and experience.

Dr. Robert D. Wald

Whether we have suffered life shattering events or we feel that something is missing in our lives, we may suffer consequences of trauma.

Trauma refers to any situation that feels overwhelming and may leave you feeling distressed, anxious and unable to trust people. This may be caused by sudden events  (such as an accident, loss and bereavement or a violent attack) as well as ongoing, long-term causes (such as ongoing physical and/or emotional abuse and neglect).

In my experience, a very common consequence of trauma is that it leaves people feeling isolated and alienated from the world, themselves and others - like being on the outside, looking in. Normal day to day functioning may take a huge amount of effort, like a Sisyphus constantly pushing an invisible but very heavy boulder up the hill.

Please know that you are not alone!

My aim is to help you recover, reconnect and heal by providing you with caring, confidential and non-judgemental counselling, tailored to your individual needs.

My approach is Integrative Relational, which means I draw on different modalities - mainly Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, Cognitive-Behavioural  and Existential - in order to create a model that suits you best.
